A gift rather than a loan
One of the things we have given is a car.
Most of what leaves the fund is a loan, and most of it comes back. Where paying it back was never going to be realistic, we give instead, and on one occasion what we gave was a car.

Not about money at all
Eid clothes dropped off at half four, picked up at six.
On a Sunday in May, families brought fancy Eid clothing they no longer needed to the AlSalam Center in northwest Calgary. From six o’clock, families who needed it came and took it home. Same room, ninety minutes apart.
It is the shape a lot of this takes. Somebody has more than they need this month, somebody else has less, and the work is mostly arranging the room so the two do not have to meet across a counter.

What you give doesn't get spent. It gets lent, and lent again.
We have been lending since 2018. What comes back goes straight out again to the next mom who calls, which is why a fund this small can do as much as it does. Nobody here draws a salary and we hold no office.
